Colbun asks to expand Chilean wind farm to 996 MW
Mar 28, 2024 17:52 CESTA Spanish joint venture (JV), Repsol Ibereolica Renovables Chile, has signed a 14-year power purchase agreement (PPA) tied to its 180-MW Atacama wind farm project that is currently in the works in Chile.
The name of the off-taker and other details have not been disclosed in Tuesday's statement released by energy major Repsol SA (BME:REP), which represents one half of the JV. The other 50% is owned by Spanish renewables group Ibereolica Renovables.
The project is located in the municipality of Freirina, in Chile’s Atacama region. The 180-MW wind farm is due to commence commercial operation in the second half of 2022.
Atacama is the second wind project that the Spanish duo is developing in Chile. Their first joint project, 110-MW Cabo Leones III, is currently under construction and is set to start operation in the second quarter of 2021.
The pair plans to realise over 1,600 MW of wind and solar projects in Chile by 2025, with the possibility of adding another 1,000 MW by 2030.
