Octopus Energy invests in floating wind specialist Ocergy
Apr 25, 2024 16:40 CESTBP plc (LON:BP) and German electric utility EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG (ETR:EBK) have secured two leases in the UK’s latest offshore wind leasing round for projects with a combined capacity of 3 GW.
The two companies will develop and operate the two projects of up to 1.5 GW each through a 50/50 joint venture (JV), EnBW said when it confirmed the award on Monday. Both of their leases are located in the Irish Sea, in two separate seabed bidding areas defined in the auction round. Namely, these are the Dogger Bank area, off Yorkshire Coast, and the North Wales region, off the coast of Barrow-In-Furness.
Once installed, the proposed capacity will be capable of producing electricity to cover the consumption of about 3.4 million homes.
Six projects totalling close to 8 GW were selected in the Crown Estate’s round four wind lease tender. RWE Renewables, a partnership between France’s Total SA (EPA:FP) and the Green Investment Group (GIG), as well as the Offshore Wind Ltd JV of Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios and SA-Flotation Energy plc the other developers in the list of winners.
