Oil and gas major Royal Dutch Shell Plc (AMS:RDSA) is looking to develop roughly 323 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Brazil's Paraiba state.

According to a document published by power sector regulator Aneel, Shell has submitted to the Brazilian agency a plan for seven PV schemes, UFV Canis 1 through 6, each of 48.12 MW, and the 34.37-MW UFV Canis 7 project.

In April 2020, Shell also presented papers to Aneel regarding a 130-MW solar portfolio in Minas Gerais state. These registrations with Aneel pave the way for Shell to make its projects feasible.

Shell’s business development manager for solar energy in Latin America, Maria Gabriela da Rocha, told Reuters in June of last year that the oil major was soon going to begin talks with potential customers to sell the future output of its first solar plants in Brazil, which could start production in 2023.
